Former White House Press Secretary to Speak
Dee Dee Myers makes the case for “Why Women Should Rule the World”
KeyBank’s outreach to women and women-owned businesses in Rockland County is expanding thanks to the upcoming Key4Women Forum and the collaboration and support of the Rockland Business Association and the RBA Women’s Forum.
The Key4Women Forum is part of KeyBank's Key4Women initiative which is a commitment to invest in women-owned businesses through lending, sponsoring and hosting programs that expand the number of resources available to women-owned businesses. The Forum has been held for several years, inviting women leaders to offer their thoughts and ideas to women audiences in KeyBank geographies.
"This is a first for Rockland County and the RBA is proud to be supporting this worthwhile event. There is a natural synergy between this program and the RBA's Women's Forum," noted Al Samuels, RBA President/CEO.
On September 18, 2008, former White House Press Secretary, Dee Dee Myers, will be here for a special presentation based on her new book, "Why Women Should Rule the World."
When former White House press secretary Dee Dee Myers set out to write her recent book, she did so with the certainty of two things:
- The title would be Why Women Should Rule the World.
- The world would be a better place with more women leaders.
“The title was meant to be provocative, a bit tongue-in-cheek,” said Myers, who at the age of 31 was asked by President Bill Clinton to become the first female press secretary in U.S. history. “What I’m saying is that women are different—and they bring different strengths to public life. We would all be better (off) if women had their place beside men.”
These differences—and their influence on decisions and perceptions—will be the subject of Myers’ keynote presentation at the Key4Women Forum, to be held September 18 from 8:00 am – 11:00 am at the View on the Hudson in Piermont. The event is being sponsored by News 12, and Hudson Valley Business and Westchester County Business Journal, both published by WestFair, Inc.
Myers’ presentation is not all politics. It’s about success, in business and life. “People need to remember that there is not one path to success. When we share our stories, our setbacks are as important as any of our accomplishments. Success, like life, doesn’t always go according to plan.”
In keeping with Key’s charitable giving focus — financial education and financial independence — Rockland Family Shelter, an RBA member organization, has been identified as the primary Forum benefactor. All proceeds from the event, $25 per person, will be donated to the Shelter. “We are excited and proud to bring this event to Rockland County and be able to support such a tremendous organization as the Rockland Family Shelter”, said Mike Orsino, KeyBank District President.
